Scarecrow Festival 2017

20th-24th September 2017

Registration deadline - 20th August 2017

The Scarecrow Festival will take place throughout the village. Last year we had over 70 amazing creations dotted around the Arts Festival venues, schools, churches, shops and of course villagers’ gardens. It was a huge success with many people expressing their enjoyment of walking, scooting and cycling around the scarecrow trail. The success of the festival was due to the enthusiasm and creativity of all of those taking part in making the scarecrows for which we are extremely grateful. This year we are confident that we can create an incredible scarecrow festival again, but we need you!

Get together with your family, friends, club, pub or neighbours and start thinking about making a scarecrow for the festival. This year’s theme is “Monumental/Memorable Moments in History” which gives plenty of scope for ideas from an individual local villager to a world affair and everything in between. It can be a serious world changing event to a tongue in cheek poke at celebrity! There are no restrictions on the size of your scarecrow creation, it can be a small single scarecrow or a whole scene.

Scarecrows will need to be displayed from Wednesday 20th to Sunday 24th September inclusive. Booklets containing a map of the location of all the scarecrows will be available to buy before and during the festival enabling people to follow the trail.

There will be awards for the “Favourite Scarecrow”, the ‘Most Inventive Scarecrow” and the one that “Best Depicts the Historical Moment” split into two categories based on an “Individual/Family” and “Group/Club” entry. Entrants will be asked to think of a question about their scarecrow that those walking the trail will be able to answer. There will be a trophy awarded to a correctly answered quiz entry. All prizes will be awarded at a special Arts Festival Awards on Sunday 1st October. All those entering a scarecrow will be invited to attend.

So put on your Worzel Gummidge thinking heads and register your interest today! Drop an email to Dawn and Gail at scarecrows@duffieldartsfestival.com and we will get back to you with everything you need to know to take part in the festival.

We can’t wait for what is set to be another fantastic Scarecrow Festival for the village.
